Thirtyroku began as a personal automotive photography project by Albuquerque-based photographer Cyrus Pischel. From the start, the focus has been on capturing cars in a distinct, stylistic way, blending photography with graphic design to extend the story beyond the image itself. Each body of work is rooted in atmosphere, detail, and intent, treating every vehicle as part of a larger narrative rather than a standalone subject.

The name Thirtyroku comes from “Thirty” and “Roku,” the Japanese translation for the number six, together forming 36. The number is a reference to The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, the film that later inspired Wu-Tang Clan’s debut album, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). That mindset shaped the foundation of the project, a commitment to continual learning and exploration across mediums including photography, design, stop motion, and videography, in order to build the evolving bodies of work seen today.

As of the new year, Thirtyroku has expanded into creating tangible products that exist alongside the visual work. Beginning with 9,000 RPM Through Times Square, these physical releases mark a new chapter, one focused on print, objects, and limited releases that preserve moments in a lasting form. While the scope continues to grow, the approach remains the same, intentional, independent, and exclusive.

This next iteration of Thirtyroku is just beginning.
